Born and raised in South Korea, Xia
started singing at her church choir at an early age. After elementary
school, her family emigrated to the U.S. Xia attended
University
of California, Santa Barbara and majored in Film Studies.
At a campus jazz performance, she met
Vernon Martin. Martin, a bass player, had played with the legendary
Roland Kirk, and he asked her to sing with him at a
Santa Barbara Jazz Festival.
Following that performance, she fronted several local jazz bands. Moving to Los Angeles after getting her B.A., Xia began writing and recording her own lyrics and music.
In her song writing class at
UCLA Extensions
taught
by
David Batteau, she met her producer Double R
and they teamed up to write and record her first
album, Intimate.
